Stress headaches: How to combat stress?

Stress. It can cause you a wide variety of problems ranging from hypertension to ulcers to irritable bowel syndrome.  Among all these, headaches are the most common result of stress. Stress can cause headaches and headaches can cause stress. Either way it is important to control stress because stress can lead to cardiovascular problems, especially heart attack. So here are a few tips to combat stress which will in turn keep you away from a lot of health-related concerns.

  1. Exercise: Exercising regularly will help in reducing stress. You can include yoga, swimming, or something that entertains you like dancing in  your exercise regime. Exercise will keep your mind away from the daily stress of your life. The release of endorphins will give you a happy feeling. 
  2. Get proper rest: Sleep can turn out to be a distant dream when you have stress. But it is important to have a good amount of sleep to combat stress. Lack of sleep will target the stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol making you more stressful.  
  3. Eat good food: Include more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet. Rather than simply eating any food, start eating smart. Select food items that will give you more energy and help your stress under control. 
  4. Laugh as much as you can: What is a better medicine than laugh? Laughter helps the body in releasing endorphins and other happy hormones that will help you keep a positive attitude towards life. You can go any method for this. Meet friends, go for a funny movie or show, or you even join a laughing club for this.  
  5. Take a break: If you feel stressed, take a break. Go for a small walk, or stretch yourself until you regain the energy to do the task you are doing. If you want a long break, go for a vacation and clear up your mind. A good change will enhance your mood and give you more energy to perform your daily activities
  6. Seek support: This is as or more important than all the above-mentioned steps. Talk to your family, or friends about things bothering you. If you are not able to do that, consult a therapist. Talking to someone about your problems during a difficult time can help you manage stress to a large extent. 

You can also try managing your daily activities beforehand to avoid stress induced by daily tasks. What you need to know is that everyone gets stressed. The people you think have got it all under control also get stressed at times. They might know better how to manage their stress. Take control of your life and mind now with these simple steps.
